UW Health offers different telehealth options for your convenience.

Scheduled video appointments

When you need to see your UW Health provider, video appointments let patients meet with their healthcare provider using a smartphone, tablet or computer with webcam. It’s an easy way to get great care from the comfort of home. These appointments are scheduled with your provider's clinic.

Urgent care video visits

When you need quick access to a medical provider, Care Anywhere urgent care video visits are available 24/7 for certain conditions like cold and flu symptoms. Whether your child has a rash or you're feeling sick, video visits allow you to see a provider without having to leave home. No appointments are needed.

Telehealth uses software that is both secure and HIPAA compliant that allows you to have a video visit for most appointments. Just like an appointment in the office, you and your provider can see and hear each other using a computer or mobile device that has a camera and microphone.

Virtual appointments, or video appointments, let patients meet with their healthcare provider using a smartphone, tablet or computer with webcam. It’s an easy way to get great care from the comfort of home. These appointments are scheduled with your provider's clinic.

MyChart scheduled video appointments

UW Health offers video appointments through MyChart. These video visits are scheduled with your healthcare provider by contacting your clinic. When appropriate, a video visit will be scheduled instead of an in-person visit.

Benefits of MyChart scheduled video appointments

  • All your health care information, including upcoming appointments, are in a single, convenient location

  • You can test your computer, phone or tablet prior to your appointment

  • You can check in ahead of your appointment time

  • Support persons can join the video appointment, such as family, interpreters and your care team

  • No need to download a separate video app, just use the MyChart app

  • Conveniently see a provider from your home or work

MyChart video appointment steps

  1. 01.

    Create a MyChart account

    If you do not already have a MyChart account, you will need to create one before your appointment.

  2. 02.

    Find your appointment in MyChart

    To begin your appointment, login to MyChart and find your appointment. It should be located on the Welcome page or under the Visits tab.

  3. 03.

    Test your setup

    After you've logged in and located your appointment, select "Appointment" and test your computer or phone setup by selecting "test hardware." You can test your setup anytime before your visit.

  4. 04.

    Start your appointment

    About 10 minutes before your appointment, log in, test your setup if you haven't already done so, and then click "Join Visit" to begin your appointment. Clicking on "Join Visit" lets your provider know you are there and ready for your appointment.

    Where to find help

    If you need assistance with your video appointment, call (877) 768-0732. If you cannot see your video appointment listed in MyChart, or you need to cancel/reschedule your appointment, please call your clinic.

Urgent Care Video Visits

When you need to be seen right away, Care Anywhere can help

When you need quick access to a medical provider - like for an Urgent Care visit - UW Health Care Anywhere urgent care video visits might be an option.

Video visits are done from your home using your computer, tablet or smartphone and do not require an appointment. You must physically be in the state of Wisconsin at the time of your video visit.

Some conditions cannot be addressed using a video visit. Patients who are experiencing an emergency or infants under 3 months of age should receive care in-person.

Consider using a video visit if you are experiencing:

  • Cold/flu symptoms

  • Cough

  • Fever

  • Stuffy/runny nose

  • Sore throat

  • Allergies

  • Abdominal pain

  • Painful/difficult urination

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Low back pain

  • Diarrhea

  • Eye infections

  • Joint pain

  • Sprains

  • Headache

  • Minor skin problems

Tips

Tips to get the most out of your video visits

  • Never do a video visit while driving.

  • Find a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be interrupted.

  • Choose a well-lit area with minimal distractions.

  • Position your camera at eye level for the best interaction with your provider.

  • Your video appointment room might appear dark before your provider joins.

  • Turn your camera, microphone and speakers on (volume up).

  • Strong wi-fi or wired interest is recommended (using a cellular signal will cause choppy video)

  • Fully charge or plug in your device.
