What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though it suffered from toxic buzz at the time of its release, Waterworld is ultimately an ambitious misfire: an extravagant sci-fi flick with some decent moments and a lot of silly ones.

Waterworld | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Anton Bitel Little White Lies That Costner's antihero should be so fundamentally dislikable is entirely acceptable - after all, the Mariner's arc makes him an eternal outsider... - but that he should also be deadly dull is less so Jan 21, 2019 Full Review Waterworld | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Dolores Barclay Associated Press Costner... is totally humorless and as dreary as the landscape he travels. And the uninspired and often inane dialogue in Peter Rader and David Twohy's script doesn't help. Simone C I always liked this movie and I don't understand why it gets so much hate. Love it. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/21/24 Full Review Jeremiah M The sets are incredible and the stunt team did a fantastic job. The movie is goofy but I'll still give it five stars for the crew that did great Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/20/24 Full Review Joe M One of my favourite movies of all time!!! Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/13/24 Full Review Justin W An exquisite blend of visionary & epic storylines, this masterpiece captivates the soul. Each detail whispers a story, crafting a tapestry of unparalleled beauty that echoes the depths of human experience. Truly, a timeless treasure that speaks to the heart.” Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/03/24 Full Review Nathan W I still dont understand why this film isn't more popular. Its the classic dystopian movie formula with the novel and unique twist of taking place on the water. There was just the right amount of action. The costumes were creative and the set pieces complex and imaginative. Admittedly the CGI hasn't aged all that well, but the story is one a kind and it will always be a personal favorite of mine.
