We're so lucky to have animal rescue charities to protect and care for animals during times like these.I've been working closely with quite a few during the cost-of-living crisis. It's been inspiring to witness charities fighting for animals, despite a perfect storm working against them.As this article demonstrates, the number of animals being given up is going through the roof. Scaling up your service by >25% is no mean feat, but charities have done it because they have to.The numbers would be even higher if it weren't for charities also pivoting their work to address the crisis. Newly established pet food banks are helping thousands of pet owners to keep their best friends at home where they belong.All the while, animal rescues (like all charities) are seeing their own costs go up and income go down as people are less able to donate.This article explains the grim situation and demonstrates the superhuman work that's going on to try and navigate through it.https://lnkd.in/eSZyEv2e

🏡Help us secure this site for the animals 🏡You may already know our rescue has been working without a secure physical site for over three years now. It has been a really turbulent time for our hardworking team, and it's animals, navigating this insecurity. This is all whilst the demands on our sector have drastically increased. Here's what you can do today:Assess the SituationStay CalmCall for Help - Animal control or animal charities. Offer Assistance: If the cat seems approachable and you feel comfortable doing so, you can try to coax the cat down by offering food or a familiar item, such as a favorite toy or blanket.Provide Support: If the cat is unable to come down on its own, try to provide support and reassurance from the ground. Speak softly to the cat and let it know that help is on the way.Remember to prioritise safety at all times, both for yourself and the cat. Avoid attempting to climb the tree or use makeshift tools to reach the cat, as this can result in injury to both you and the animal. 🐈

What are the biggest challenges nonprofit dog rescue face todayAnimal rescues have many challenges facing them in their quest to unite abandoned animals with good homes. Battling people's preconceived notions about rescue pets, public ignorance over curbing animal overpopulation, lack of centralized funding for these non-profit shelters, and the staggering number of animals all contribute to a veritable host of problems to surmount.One of the best ways to help rescues combat this issue is to raise public awareness, and spread information about the difficulties faced in providing such a valuable service.With that in mind, these are the three of the major problems facing animal rescues today.1. A lack of public awareness2. Funding is hard to come by3. There are too many pets needing spaceThese are problems that will not go away unless we all pitch in and do our part to help, as best we can!

We recently made a submission in response to the Productivity Commission’s draft report, Future foundations for giving. In our submission, we:▶️ Agreed with the majority of the Commission’s findings and recommendations in the areas covered by our original submission;▶️ Recommended that some aspects of the report could be improved with further clarification, information or explanation;▶️ Reiterated that animal welfare charities (charities with the purpose of preventing or relieving the suffering of animals) are consistently underestimated by policymakers in terms of their importance to the Australian community and the value of the work they do;▶️ Delved further into the case for extending tax concessions to animal welfare charities.🐶 You can read our submission here: https://lnkd.in/eBshnnvn#AusPol #charity #donations
